Donations Made to Deed Community Giving Foundation

All donations made through Deed Community Giving Foundation programs are made to Deed Community Giving Foundation (or “DCGF”), a Donor Advised Foundation ("DAF") recognized by the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") under Section 501(c)(3) of the Code as a tax-exempt public charity (Federal Tax ID: 88-3801559).

As a DAF, donations are made to Deed Community Giving Foundation with each donor recommending a charity to which the donor wishes the funds to be granted. Deed Community Giving Foundation reviews all such recommendations under the terms set forth in the Donor Terms of Service. By using the Deed Community Giving Foundation, Donors acknowledge that their donations will be granted to recommended charities pursuant to such Donor Terms of Service. Donors will receive a date-stamped receipt of donation from Deed Community Giving Foundation marking the date the donation was made to Deed Community Giving Foundation. All grants made by Deed Community Giving Foundation are completed in a manner that is consistent with our policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.

To disburse donations, the Deed Community Giving Foundation may disburse funds directly, or may disburse funds through their network of partner donor-advised funds (DAFs). The Deed Community Giving Foundation’s relationship with a charity and/or the DAF network enrollment status of a charity will determine the method and speed at which we grant funds to a recommended charity. As described below, Deed Community Giving Foundation’s DAF network pursues multiple specified steps to grant donations it receives to its donors' recommended charities. Pending distribution of grants, Deed Community Giving Foundation holds all donations in a secure, non-interest bearing bank account.

Charity Status and Disbursement Timelines

Deed Community Giving Foundation grants donated funds to charities affiliated with Deed Community Giving Foundation, or enrolled with one of the Deed Community Giving Foundation’s partner DAFs, on a monthly basis after Deed Community Giving Foundation's receipt of the funds. Dependent on whether Deed Community Giving Foundation has a direct relationship with the nonprofit, or if Deed Community Giving Foundation must collaborate with a partner DAF for nonprofit disbursement, disbursement timelines will generally take under a month, although some DAFs and some charity selections may involve a longer timeline.

Our disbursement schedule is intended to enable us to streamline processing by providing a lump sum payment to either the charity or the DAF partner distributing payment to the charity. Through our partner DAFs, we may distribute grants to enrolled charities via Paypal Giving Fund/ PayPal, as well as through Global Giving, Give India, Network for Good, and other accredited DAFs. Through Deed Community Giving Foundation and our network of partner DAFs, donors can be confident their donations will reach their chosen charities securely.

Through Go Deed Inc.’s “Nominate a Nonprofit” feature, certain donors may have the option to recommend that we grant the funds they donate to charities that are not yet affiliated with Deed Community Giving Foundation, meaning they have not yet enrolled with one of Deed Community Giving Foundation’s partner DAFs. You can check to see if a charity is affiliated with Deed Community Giving Foundation by searching for it on the Deed application.

Deed Community Giving Foundation will attempt to grant donations made to charities that have not enrolled with a Deed Community Giving Foundation partner DAF after making reasonable attempts to contact them and invite them to complete enrollment in a Deed Community Giving Foundation partner DAF. Our partner DAFs receive information about these charities from through their vetting processes, which may include partnerships with organizations like GuideStar as well as their own internal verification and research functions. Deed Community Giving Foundation may facilitate the grant of funds to an unenrolled charity through our network of partner DAFs, subject to the unenrolled charity meeting certain vetting criteria established by Deed Community Giving Foundation or a partner DAF. If a charity does not enroll with a partner DAF and we are unable to pay the charity by check (e.g., a check is returned or is not cashed within the time period specified on the check), or we deem the charity cannot receive funds for other reasons (such a being out of compliance with applicable registration requirements), we may, at our discretion, remove the charity from our directory of eligible charities and reassign funds in the manner described below.

Expediting Payments in Response to Disasters

In response to natural disasters, humanitarian crises or other events requiring urgent action, Deed Community Giving Foundation may seek to accelerate the payment of grants through our partner DAFs to charities undertaking relief and recovery work. We aim in those circumstances to help enable access to funds as soon as they are needed. However, we aim only to grant funds to charities that meet the requirements of Deed Community Giving Foundation and our partner DAFs, and certain checks we carry out to protect donated funds are mandated by regulations and take time to complete.

Grants from Canceled Donations

Donations to Deed Community Giving Foundation are final and irrevocable gifts, and refunds are only granted in exceptional circumstances, in accordance with our Donation Refund Policy. In cases where donations are refunded or canceled after funds have been granted to the recommended charity, Deed Community Giving Foundation may elect to offset a future grant rather than requesting that the charity return the funds already granted.

Reassignment of Certain Donations

While we take all reasonable steps to attempt to grant donated funds according to the donor's recommendation, Deed Community Giving Foundation retains exclusive legal control over all donations. In the rare cases when a charity fails to meet our terms or the terms of one of our partner DAFs, and/or fails to meet Deed Community Giving Foundation's or one of our partner DAF’s due diligence standards for receipt of a donation at any time, we reserve the right to reassign funds to another charitable organization of our choice. We may also reassign donations in the event we are unable to distribute the funds successfully (e.g., the charity fails to cash the check(s) we send, or communicates they are no longer accepting funds).

The tax-deductible status of a donation does not change if funds are reassigned because Deed Community Giving Foundation is the charitable organization of record for the donor's original donation.

In the rare cases when Deed Community Giving Foundation reassigns funds, we will (whenever possible) ask the donor to recommend an enrolled charity from one of the Deed Community Giving Foundation’s partner DAF directories to benefit from the donation (with eligible charities from this network of directories accessible on Go Deed Inc.’s services). If Deed Community Giving Foundation is unable to reach the donor, or the donor chooses not to respond, Deed Community Giving Foundation will try to grant the funds to a charity that operates in a similar cause area to the charity originally recommended by the donor. Where the cause area is unlikely to reflect the donor's original intent, we may instead grant the funds to a charity with a broad humanitarian mission. In selecting charities to benefit from such grants, we favor those that have enrolled with a Deed Community Giving Foundation partner DAF, to enable efficient, secure and cost-effective delivery to charities that have accepted the Deed Community Giving Foundation’s or our relevant partner DAF’s terms and conditions. For example, if we are unable to make a grant to an unenrolled local organization providing education services, we would typically reassign the Foundations to a Deed Community Giving Foundation partner DAF’s enrolled national organization providing education services.
